Dad won!
We have been having a 'battle' with Cheveron/Texaco. In December, the Cheveron Texaco bill was due on the 26th. Dad paid it, but, maybe because of Christmas mail, it didn't arrive until the 28th. They called, "Your payment is late." Dad said, "It's in the mail" :) Which it truly was. They said, "Well, you owe $.06 interest and a $25.00 late fee. Dad said, "I have been with Cheveron/Texaco since 1976 and this is my FIRST late payment, and it is late by two days--not through fault of my own--I paid it the day the bill came, I always do. Your bill was late getting to me, and my payment was late getting to you." Dad, online, paid the $.06 interest. They said, "Well, you also have to pay the $25.00 late fee, which we will 'waive', but it will take 3-4 months for that to 'go through' our system. Dad said, "No--with the same click of a button that you can add my 6 cents, you can delete the waived $25 late fee." They insisted, Dad insisted. [By the way, it was on the company Sunset Interiors which is non existent and defunct anyway so this wasn't on our credit. ] So, every month since then we have gotten a Cheveron/Texaco bill with an additional $25 late fee, plus interest. Every month dad would call them. Finally when the bill was about $200.00 they sent it to Collections. Dad said, "Hurrah........a reasonable 3rd party." So, he called the collections company with the story that they also though was dumb, they contacted some head honcho at Chevron/Texaco. He called dad, appologized for their stupidity and waived all fees and cancelled the bill. Dad felt victorious and was happy!

I once had a collection agency contact to me, to my surprise, about a hospital bill. I contacted the hospital and asked what was going on since I had not yet received a bill for the surgery. They said they mailed it twice and it came back both times. I asked what address they were sending it to. Lo and behold, it was the right street address but in a completely different town. Man was I steamed. I paid through the collection agency and they said it would not affect my credit if I paid on time, which I did, but it still really gets my goat that some businesses are so impersonal and are in it just for themselves...even hospitals!
Way to stand your ground and come out victorious!!
YAY!!!!! Good for you Dad! Ditto what Merilee said!
Whoa ... you actually "won" something??? Maybe the lawyer dispute is next!
Wow! I'm glad that worked out!
