Our own miracle

Dad and I both needed tires for our cars, desperately.  This month was not a great month for buying anything, let alone 8 tires.  We just got a letter from the IRS that said they were sending us a refund check for $850 for 2009 taxes!  Wow!  Miracle!  I had already bought 2 tires, so that should cover the 6 we need.  Amazing.  ......a few days later, dad and I are both officially 're-tired'!

Our Dangerous Hike! Alexander Basin!

Can you see the Moose top center?  This was a big bull moose.  His wife was over to the left behind the tree a bit. The picture below is the hill I didn't want to go down, but we went up, so had no choice.  It was STEEP going, and I was rolling. This was from partway down.  Hence my panic attack!  We had to get back to the snow pack to get back to the trail.

The easy part of the trail

Interesting growth.

First mile, 1000 feet rise in elevation, boulder strewn trail

Like baby's breath.  So pretty

Climbing fast

This branch grew roots???

A smooth respite, flat and easy going

These were really bright purple......pretty

What a year to start hiking!  The gorgeous undergrowth and flowers!

Those giant flowers are called cow parsnips

More easy hiking

This was a new kind of flower......white instead of pink, and sweetly delicate

Whole fields of them

Amazing

And beautiful

Dad's favorite flowers

Beautiful views

Fairly steep climbing (nearly 3000 feet rise in elevation)

Surrounded by beauty

Wow!

Fields and fields and fields of flowers

Up higher, the pink flowers were orange

Nearing the top of the world

Garden of Eden

Steep climbing

Only Steve and I and a Mother and Father Moose

We hiked up this steep slope of meadow........and slid down.  I went through pants, garments and at least my first layer of skin!  Luckily dad had an extra pair of sweats I could put on!

Amazing

Everywhere flowers

Every variety

And color!  Because the going was so tough (a lot on hands and knees and backsides!) we didn't get off the mountain until 11:00 pm.  The last mile over the rock strewn steep path was 'fun' in the dark.  Worth every step, bump, bruise and mosquito bite!  No more going around ice fields for dad and I, though.  If the path ends......we stop!
